Three-year-old to have his name legally changed to POPCORN after refusing to respond to anything else

Three-year-old Diesel Roberts is getting his name changed by deed poll to Popcorn
A three-year-old boy is getting his name changed to POPCORN - after his parents said he refuses to be known as anything else.
Diesel Roberts’ already-unusual name is hardly used by his parents Hazel Williams and Huw Roberts, so they wanted to find something that felt more fitting, according to Wales Online.
Popcorn seemed like the perfect choice as the couple have been referring to their son by the popular cinema snack since he was in the womb.

Three-year-old Diesel Roberts wants to change his name to Popcorn, which if were successful, would make him the only one with the name in the UK
After hesitantly naming him Diesel on the birth certificate, it quickly became apparent to lorry driver Huw and 37-year-old mum Hazel that the name just wasn’t quite right.
Bringing their tot home to their house in Conwy both began to mull over a suitable substitute.

“Popcorn, it was the obvious choice,” said Huw. “He was a bit of a fighter during Hazel's pregnancy, and the kicks in the womb were like the popping that happens when you put the corn in the saucepan. It’s stuck ever since that day.”
Now due to start nursery in the coming year, Popcorn has taken such a liking to his second name that he refuses to be known by anything else.

Three-year-old Diesel Roberts refuses to be known as anything but Popcorn
“We’ve always called him Popcorn, it started off as a nickname but now he won’t answer to anything else,” said self-employed mum Hazel.
“We love the name, it’s fun and all of our friends call him it and like it too.
“There are a few people in the family who don’t really agree with it, but I’d rather not discuss them to be honest.”
A keen fan of the Thunderbirds cartoons, Popcorn is the baby of the family and is doted on by his teenage sisters Paige, 14, and Tyler, 16.
Next year the couple are hoping to make Popcorn’s name official by changing it from Diesel by deed poll.
“We’ve been looking into it for ages now, but we just haven’t got round to giving him a proper name,” Hazel said.
“For one thing we were unsure if we would be allowed to change it to Popcorn, but we just feel it keeps popping up and we want to have it made official.”
According to a national database of babies’ names, Popcorn will become the first child in the UK to go by that name, should it be changed legally.
While the database shows that there are five people in the UK registered under the name Diesel, there is no record of any child named Popcorn.
